Kyōwarabe

Kyōwarabe is Kyoto’s first guidebook, and it was published in Meireki 4 (A.D. 1658).

The author Nakagawa Kiun also published its sequel Kyōwarabe Ato-oi in Kanbun 7 (A.D. 1667).

This research is based on the findings of the project titled “An approach to create a modern version of Kyōwarabe: an attempt to make active use of archival documents housed in the Kyoto Prefectural Library and Archives for research on International Kyoto Studies.” The project is funded by the 2013 ACTR (Academic Contribution to Region) project of Kyoto Prefectural University.
